Cleburne is on the Eastern shore of the Derwent River, immediately beside the Bowen Bridge, between the suburbs of Geilston Bay to the south and Otago Bay to the north – twenty-five minutes from Hobart International Airport and fifteen minutes from the Hobart GPO. New Norfolk is thirty minutes upriver.

Cleburne is virtually on the banks of the River. On the other shore – the west – are Hobart’s northern suburbs and a range of mountains, of which Mount Wellington is the most magnificent. During winter, there is often snow on the peak and slopes

Immediately across the river are Elwick Race Course, Royal Showgrounds and the City of Glenorchy. Upstream, ten minutes drive away, is Moorilla, an estate which produces wines and Moo Brew Beers; it has an excellent restaurant with panoramic views up and down the Derwent. Moorilla is also a venue for class live music acts, such as Paul Kelly. The owner, David Walsh, is building his Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) a brand-new art gallery perched on the river’s edge, which will house his collection, recently enlarged by his purchase of John Brack’s “The Bar’’, from under the noses of the Melbourne art establishment.

Cleburne’s surrounding environment is semi-rural.

Approaching from Airport

Follow the signs to Hobart, and, as you approach the Tasman Bridge, take the right turn on B32 to Lindisfarne, Geilston Bay and Bridgewater. Stay on B32 to the roundabout (approx. seven kilometres). A small sign here will say Risdon Cove. Turn left and continue on B32 for two more kilometers and take B32 left to Old Beach and Bridgewater. After merging with traffic coming from your right, IMMEDIATELY position yourself to turn right into our drive which is only one hundred metres after the junction. If you find yourself going under the Bowen Bridge – you have gone too far!
